Aluminium phosphide, AlP

Aluminium phosphide, AlP, prepared from a mixture of aluminium powder and red phosphorus by the thermit reaction, is a friable, yellow solid which is decomposed by water with the evolution of phosphine. The phosphides Al₃P₇, Al₅P₃, and Al₂P have been described.
